My Story
During the course of 90 minutes, thirty people in the UK will have developed dementia. Myself and my family have been impacted by dementia on a number of occaisions and it is horrible to see people you care about suffer in such a way and witness the direct impact on those around them.
Last year myself and my good friend (Phil) supported Dementia UK by walking from Bristol City to Cardiff City raising funds through the fans vs dementia initiative. This was a 53 mile journey that was painful and rewarding as we raised £5,000 in total.
This year we have raised the bar and are walking from Ashton Gate to Loftus Road to watch QPR v Bristol City.
The direct route is 115 miles, but as we did not fancy walking along the M4, we are walking the entire length of the Kennet and Avon canal to Reading, across country to Slough to then pick up part of the Grand Union Canal, finishing off with a little bit of the Thames Path to get to Loftus Road. In total we are walking 130 miles and we are aiming to raise £10k for Dementia UK.
This disease has affected us both directly, as Phil's mum died from the illness days before our walk last year and his dad is still battling with it on daily basis. I lost one of my close relatives a few years ago and have another coping with dementia with the support of their family.
It is a cause very close to our hearts and we'd love you to sponsor us.
Many thanks please try and help us reach our target.
